12 BOMBS IN MONTHS

The following is a chronology of incidents involving bombs that have

been reported in Orange County authorities in past 13 months.

Jan. 11, 1986--Two cars were heavily damaged by explosive devices

in the 2300 block of East Monroe Street, Orange. No one was injured.

May 13, 1986--Two teen-agers were injured, one seriously, when a

pipe bomb exploded in a drain pipe on Sheridan Street in Irvine. A

third teen-ager was later arrested on suspicion of detonating the

bomb.

July 14, 1986--A crudely fashioned, foot-long pipe bomb was

discovered by store employees at 3827 Bristol St., Santa Ana. No

one was arrested.

Aug. 19, 1986--A woman found a pipe bomb with a partially burned

fuse at her front door in the 300 block of Sabina Street, Anaheim.

She, her daughter and niece drove it to the fire station, and firefighters

evacuated the neighborhood.

Sept. 10, 1986--The Sheriff’s Department bomb squad defused an

explosive device found in a paper bag outside a vacant building in the

1500 block of West Commonwealth Avenue, Fullerton.

Sept. 15, 1986--A pipe bomb exploded on the hood of a pick-up truck

on Heil Avenue near the San Diego Freeway in Westminster. No one

was injured.

Nov. 5, 1986--An 18-year-old apparently making a pipe bomb was

injured when it exploded in the front yard of a home in the 20400

block of Kenworth Circle, Huntington Beach.

Nov. 9, 1986--Police found a pipe bomb outside the Six Pence Motel

in Westminster.

Nov. 24, 1986--A pipe bomb exploded in a storm drain near the Santa

Ana River in Santa Ana. No one was injured.

Nov. 25, 1986--A car bomb was discovered in Huntington Beach.

Police would not release any information about the incident.

Feb. 16, 1987--A pipe bomb exploded in the driveway of a home in the

2700 block of Betanzos in Mission Viejo. No one was injured, but a car

was damaged.

Feb. 12, 1987--Students at San Clemente High School were evacuated

after a caller threatened to set off several bombs. A bomb-like device,

later found to be non-explosive, was discovered in the boys’ locker

room. No other devices were found. Police said it was a hoax.
