Lincoln’s Rowe to Announce Today He’s Attending SDSU

Patrick Rowe, Lincoln High School’s All-American wide receiver, is expected to announce today that he is going to sign a national letter of intent to attend San Diego State.

Rowe will hold a press conference at 1:30 today at Lincoln High.

Rowe said Sunday that he is “leaning toward San Diego State,” adding that he had already decided and was only waiting a couple of days to be sure.

“San Diego State has always been in the front of my mind,” Rowe said. “This weekend, I talked with my parents and they gave me some support.”

Rowe, a Times’ All-County receiver and one of the key players in Lincoln’s drive to the San Diego Section 2-A championship in December, has been one of the most highly sought-after recruits in the county, along with Vista running back Tommy Booker and Oceanside wide receiver Junior Seau.

Seau announced last week that he will attend USC. Booker said last week that he will attend San Diego State. However, Booker, at the advice of his father, Tom Booker Sr., has decided to wait a few more days before making his announcement official.

When the first day of national letter of intent signing came and went Feb. 11, Rowe was deciding between San Diego State, USC, UCLA and Arizona State. Recently, he narrowed his choices to SDSU and USC.

“He hasn’t told me anything yet,” Lincoln Coach Vic Player said. “Our principal even asked him where he was going and all he said was, ‘Just come to the press conference.’

“I think he would be a fool--and he’s not a fool--not to attend San Diego State. With all of the attention the program is getting and the fact that SDSU has already signed (Fallbrook quarterback Scott) Barrick and had Todd Santos, I just can’t see him going anywhere else.”
