Britain’s Independent Television network announced Tuesday a ban on broadcasting sports events sponsored by tobacco companies. The network added it would honor such contracts already in existence, but would not enter into new contracts to televise sports with tobacco sponsorship. The move appears to be little more than a gesture since the independent network currently screens no major tobacco-sponsored sport, noted United Press International.
