Rob Lee and Dave Townsend scored eight points each in the fourth quarter, sparking a 20-5 Woodbridge High School run and leading the Warriors past Righetti, 62-48, Friday night in a Southern Section 2-A quarterfinal game at Hancock College.

Woodbridge plays Victor Valley Tuesday in a 2-A semifinal game.

Righetti led, 16-15, at the end of the first quarter.

But Woodbridge, with seven second-quarter points by 6-foot 9-inch junior center Adam Keefe, led at halftime, 31-29. Keefe finished with 13 points.

Vince Bryan, a 6-7 senior forward, led Woodbridge with 18 points, 10 in the second half. Townsend finished with 10 and Lee added 8.

Righetti’s Hans Kardel scored a game-high 23 points, but had only 6 in the second half. He was 9 of 13 from the floor and 5 of 10 from the free-thrown line.

Cary Sapp added nine points and Shawn Martin added eight points and six assists.

“Righetti was very emotional in the first half but we didn’t panic,” said Bill Shannon, Woodbridge coach. “We adjusted to the picks they were running and got our own offense in gear. Once we got a 10 points lead, we went to a match-up zone and made them shoot from outside.”

Righetti (19-7), the Northern League champion, was 21 of 47 from the floor and 6 of 12 from the free-throw line.

Woodbridge (23-5), Pacific Coast League champion, was 22 of 48 from the floor and was 18 of 32 from the line. Keefe was 3 of 9 from the line.

“During the season we played 95% man-to-man defense,” Shannon said. “But in the second half we took Vince (Bryan) off of Kardel and put (Adam) Keefe on him and that seemed to make a big difference. . . . To get this far in the playoffs you expect a tough game and we’re just happy to get the win.”
