Local News in Brief : Sleeping Boy, 4, Killed When Car Rams House

A 4-year-old boy was killed when a car driven by an apparently drunk driver rammed into a home in the Hollywood Hills where the child was sleeping on a couch, Los Angeles police said.

At least one other child was injured in the 9:24 p.m. incident at 3817 Broadlawn Drive, south of Universal City, a Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman said.

Police would not disclose the names of the children or of the man, who was arrested on suspicion of murder and drunk driving, Sgt. Art Haversat said.

The man had been driven home earlier in the evening by friends, who had believed he was too intoxicated to drive himself, Haversat said. But he apparently took his car out, and was driving at high speed as he approached a curve near the house and lost control, slamming into the front room and killing the sleeping child, the sergeant said.
