Share

A burglary suspect who allegedly pointed a gun at police was in critical condition Monday after being shot by a police officer in the 400 block of E. Yale Loop, authorities said.

Police said the suspect is believed to have burglarized four homes in Woodbridge Village Monday morning before he was shot and arrested while fleeing a fifth residence that had been broken into.

Police Sgt. Al Murray said officers have been unable to positively identify the wounded suspect, who is white and in his 30s.

Murray said police were notified at 11:30 a.m. Monday of a prowler around residences in the 400 block of E. Yale Loop. When officers arrived at the scene, they reported that a residence at 416 E. Yale Loop had been broken into and that someone was still inside.

According to Murray, a man ran out the front door “with a .32-caliber automatic in his right hand.” When the fleeing man pointed his automatic at a policeman, the officer, whose name was not released, fired one shot, Murray said.

The wounded suspect was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he was reported in critical condition, Murray said.

A Porsche 911, reported stolen from Buena Park, was found in an alley near the scene, Murray said, and the wounded man also is suspected of having taken the car.
