San Diego police on Monday began investigating the incidents surrounding the mistaken raid of a Southeast San Diego family whom police confused with rock cocaine dealers during a drug bust at 2 a.m. Sunday.

John Taylor, 46, said he and his brother and sister-in-law were still “shook up” after police raided their West Street home and allegedly pointed rifles at Taylor’s brother, George, while throwing him to the ground and stepping on his neck.

The incident took place during a raid of the house next door to the Taylors’, whose occupants, according to police, had sold cocaine to an undercover officer. Police did not say if any arrests were made at the alleged rock house.

Sunday’s raid marked the second consecutive weekend that police had mistaken the Taylor home as a headquarters for cocaine use, John Taylor said. Police broke a window but did not enter the Taylor home last weekend.

“The Taylors are very nice people and it’s unfortunate that this happened,” said Lt. Dan Berglund, who is participating in an investigation of the Taylors’ case.

“It’s frightening to an innocent bystander to be involved in this.”

John Taylor said Monday he was “trying to control” his anger after Sunday’s break-in. “We’re all shaky as hell right now,” Taylor said of his family.

His brother was in “worse shape than he was before” he was dragged to the ground by the police officers, John Taylor said.

George Taylor, 44, is a former General Dynamics employee who underwent spinal surgery a year ago and is disabled, according to his brother.

John Taylor said he was conferring with an attorney.

Lt. Gary Morris, a SWAT commander, would not comment on what took place between police and the Taylor family after SWAT team members entered the home.

“We’re still conducting an investigation,” Morris said.

He said no formal complaint has been filed by the Taylor family, but officers participating in Sunday’s drug bust are being questioned and a report should be finished this week.

Because the Taylors’ home was damaged, authorities put them up at a Quality Inn for two nights and hired a contractor to repair three windows broken during the two mistaken raids.
