San Diego College Baseball : Oregon St. Rallies to Beat SDSU

Larry Vladic’s bases-loaded bloop single over first base in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday night gave Oregon State an 8-7 victory over San Diego State in a round-robin game of the Best in the West college baseball tournament at Fresno.

San Diego State (12-12-1) had tied the score, 7-7, with three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh after trailing, 7-2. Nikco Riesgo singled in the tying run with two outs in the seventh.

Riesgo had two hits and Curt Lewis added two hits and an RBI for the Aztecs. Richard Holsman (2-2) was the losing pitcher.

USIU 4, Eastern Washington 3--Ron Howard’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave United States International (13-16) the victory at Fresno. USIU is 2-3 in the round-robin tournament. Mike Poteet pitched a complete-game five-hitter for the Gulls.

USD 12, Nevada Reno 8--Dave Rolls’ bases-loaded triple highlighted an eight-run eight-inning rally for the University of San Diego (2-5, 15-9) in a West Coast Athletic Conference game at USD. The Toreros trailed, 8-4, heading into the eighth but scored two runs and loaded the bases before Rolls came up. His triple to right-center gave USD a 9-8 lead. Sean Baron, Mark Trafton and Andy Roberts added RBI singles in the inning. USD and Nevada Reno (2-3-1, 12-11-1) play a doubleheader today at 11 a.m.

Georgetown (Ky.) 11, Point Loma Nazarene 5--Troy Kuhl had two hits and drove in three runs to lead Georgetown (Ky.) at Point Loma. Ron Burkland had two hits and two RBIs for Point Loma Nazarene.
