MARCH AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. —
Rescue crews airlifted the remains of Dean Martin’s son and another pilot off a remote mountainside in the rugged San Bernardino Mountains today.
Dean Paul Martin, 35, and fellow California Air National Guard Capt. Ramon Ortiz, 39, of Las Vegas were killed instantly when their F4-C Phantom jet slammed into the mountainside on Saturday. The jet hit the side of the granite mountain at about 400 m.p.h. after plunging nearly 4,000 feet. The wreckage was found Wednesday afternoon following an intense five-day search.
