An armored truck guard was robbed of $45,000 Friday by a heavyset man who hit him from behind as he was walking down a staircase at the Sears Roebuck store in North Hollywood, police said.
The guard, whose name was withheld, was not seriously injured, Los Angeles police said.
Sgt. Ike Langsam said the guard was carrying two bags of money when he was knocked down at the Victory Boulevard store.
“The suspect took the money, the two bags, and took the guard’s gun and disappeared,” Langsam said.
The suspect was described by the guard as about six feet tall and weighing about 230 pounds, wearing a light-blue Windbreaker and sunglasses.
The gun was later recovered in a different part of the building, Langsam said.
