Paramount : Insurance Change Opposed

Share

Responding to complaints from a number of residents, the City Council unanimously has approved a resolution opposing increases in automobile insurance premiums by the Automobile Club of Southern California.

Auto Club insurance premiums for some Paramount residents jumped more than 50% in January after they were placed in a different insurance rating territory. The relocation was done because Paramount policyholders during a three-year period from 1983 to 1985 reported losses that were 33% higher than club members in other cities within the same territory grouping, said Ellis Wampler, regional public services manager for the Auto Club.

The Paramount customers were moved to a territory that was experiencing similar losses, Wampler said.

The City Council resolution asks the club to reexamine its boundary change and return Paramount to its previous territory. The council has not yet received a response to its resolution from the insurer.
