Kickers Remain in First Place With a 1-0 Win
The California Kickers defeated the San Diego Nomads, 1-0, in a tiebreaker Sunday to retain their hold on first place in the Western Soccer Alliance.
The Kickers, playing at San Diego’s Warren Field before 383 fans, scored on four of the five penalty kicks in the overtime shootout to edge the Nomads, who made good on only two of five against Kicker goalie David Jacques. Scoring for the Kickers were Steve Sengelman, Amir Darabi, Steve Ledezzma and Richie Torres. The only Kicker to fail in the shootout was Joey Kirk.
The Kickers are 4-1 with 21 points. San Diego drops to 2-1 with 10 points. A win is worth three points and each goal scored is worth an additional point up to a maximum of three per game.
