Oxley Is Winner in Speedway Event
Brad Oxley of San Clemente won the eight-lap handicap main event of the weekly speedway motorcycle racing program in front of an opening-night crowd of 6,721 Friday at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.
Oxley took the lead on turn three of the seventh lap as he passed Jim O’Dell of Huntington Beach. Alan Christian of Huntington Beach was second, O’Dell third and Mike Faria of Colton fourth.
In the four-lap scratch main, Bobby Schwartz of Costa Mesa won, Faria was second and Christian third. Schwartz won the scratch main at Ventura Thursday, at San Bernardino Wednesday and at Ascot Thursday.
Bernie Tusko of Cypress won the support class race.
