Asian Influx in Suburbia

I have lived in Monterey Park for 20 years and am an Anglo. Not all of us feel the great influx of Asians into our city has been a bad thing. Though often we have had different life experiences and share different values, we can and usually do live together in harmony. It is the height of hypocrisy to expect “them” to accommodate and change and not do the same ourselves!

There are circumstances that call for discussion and accommodation, but to those who would feel more comfortable living elsewhere I say, “go”--but don’t leave behind a heritage of mistrust and hatred. There are still those of us that believe the “American way” has limitless variations and is not exclusively Anglo-European in character.
