COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS : SOFTBALL
Karen Noble scored the winning run with two outs in the ninth inning when she knocked the ball loose from the catcher at the plate after a bunt by Peggy Liebel, giving Moorpark College a 3-2 Western State Conference victory over Allan Hancock. Noble had doubled to lead off the inning.
Kristi Barber sent the game into extra innings for Moorpark (23-11) with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh that tied the score, 2-2.
Karen Mead (23-10) tossed a five-hitter to keep Moorpark in first place in conference play at 10-1.
With four games remaining in regular-season play, Mead needs 62 more strikeouts to set a national junior college season strikeout record. The record of 317 strikeouts was set in 1984 by Debbie Mygind of Arizona Western.
