Allison Franke of Canyon High School won’t be eligible to get her driver’s license for another four months, but the sophomore sure knows her way around a track.

Franke, 15, set meet records in the 100-meter hurdles, triple jump and discus Saturday to highlight the fifth Orange County girls’ track and field championships in Irvine Stadium.

Franke competed in the frosh-soph division with the intention of breaking the records.

“It’s the first time I’ve competed in a frosh-soph meet this season,” she said. “My coaches thought I could win and also break some records. We pretty much felt I could get the discus mark.”

That was easy. Franke broke Rancho Alamitos’ Celesie Parquette’s meet record of 108-feet 5-inches by more than 11 feet with a toss of 119-8. She ran 15.65 in the 100-meter hurdles to eclipse Foothill’s Ashley Selman’s mark of 15.73.

She finished the competition by leaping 36-8 in the triple jump to break Woodbridge’s Jamie Kirven’s record of 36-3. Franke’s mark also was a school record.

Franke’s marks helped her to win the award of field athlete of the meet. She also finished fourth in the long jump at 16-2 1/2. She said she jumped 17-1 1/2 on her second jump, but she scratched.

“I was really surprised how well I did, because I started getting tired,” she said. “I wanted to throw the discus 130 feet today, and I did throw 135 feet while warming up.

“I was really happy with my time in the hurdles. My goal was to break 15.7 and I did it. I wanted 37 feet in the triple jump and just missed it.”

Only one meet record was established in the varsity competition. Woodbridge’s 1,600-meter relay team of Kaci Keffer, Sandy Stroope, Debbie Horon and Kristine Schertzer won their race in 3:58.8, breaking Mission Viejo’s mark of 3:59.9 set last year.

The victory helped Woodbridge win the team championship with 58 points. Corona del Mar finished second with 50 points. Capistrano Valley (49) was third and Mission Viejo (48) fourth. Irvine won the frosh-soph title.

There also were several fine individual varsity performances.

Danielle Reaves of Esperanza won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles and the 200 meters and anchored the Aztecs’ 400-meter relay team that finished second to Mission Viejo. Reaves was named the meet’s top sprinter.

Kristin Harkins of La Quinta finished second in the 800 meters behind Savanna’s Erika Lovett and was second in the 1,500 meters behind Kelli Lewis of Dana Hills. Harkins was named the meet’s top distance runner.
