Chalk up another one for Bon Jovi. “Whitesnake,” by the hard-rock band Whitesnake, rocketed up to No. 10 on the Billboard magazine pop album chart in just one month. That wouldn’t have been possible if Bon Jovi, with its megahit hard-rock album “Slippery When Wet” (No. 3), hadn’t prompted Top 40 radio to play other hard-rock bands. Poison, with its album, “Look What the Cat Dragged in” (No. 4), is another beneficiary of Bon Jovi’s breakthrough. Pop-rocker Bryan Adams’ “Into the Fire” shot up to No. 9 in four weeks. Fleetwood Mac’s “Tango in the Night” is the hottest new album, climbing to No. 14 in its second week on the chart. Gregg Allman, written off by many as a has-been, is proving his detractors wrong with his album, “I’m No Angel,” up nine notches to No. 30. U2’s album, “The Joshua Tree,” is No. 1 for the third week. Cutting Crew’s “(I Just) Died in Your Arms” is still the No. 1 pop single. Chris De Burgh has a from-out-of-nowhere hit single with “The Lady in Red” (No. 8).
