Billy Dee Williams, Little Richard, Etta James and Bernadette Peters will appear on “Diana Ross . . . Red Hot Rhythm & Blues,” an hourlong music special that ABC plans to broadcast May 20. In it, Ross traces the evolution of rhythm and blues. Among the tunes she sings are “Summertime,” “Dirty Looks” and “Tell Me Again.”

CBS is going to the comics. That fat-cat Garfield is back Friday in a new animated special, “Garfield Goes Hollywood.” The following Friday, May 17, CBS has back-to-back cartoons: “Blondie & Dagwood” at 8 p.m., with Loni Anderson and Frank Welker doing the voices of the Bumsteads, and “Cathy” at 8:30 p.m., the first TV program to be based on Cathy Guisewite’s newspaper comic strip.

In its last original episode of the season, “The Cosby Show” travels Thursday to the fictional Hillman College, which daughter Denise (Lisa Bonet) is attending. The show actually was taped at Spelman College in Atlanta. In addition, exteriors shot there will be used in Bonet’s spinoff series on NBC next fall.
