Titans Hope to Tune Up for Playoffs at Miami

Cal State Fullerton’s baseball team has canceled tonight’s nonconference game against Loyola Marymount in anticipation of playing a nationally televised game at the University of Miami on May 18.

Ed Carroll, Fullerton athletic director, said Monday afternoon that he was still negotiating with officials from Miami about absorbing Fullerton’s travel costs, and that he was “optimistic” those details would be finalized. The game would be televised by ESPN and would serve as a final tuneup for both teams before the NCAA regional playoffs.

“At this point, I’d really be disappointed if it doesn’t come together,” Carroll said.

Titan Coach Augie Garrido contacted Loyola Marymount Coach Dave Snow--a former Garrido assistant--Monday morning to cancel today’s game against the Lions. That game could be rescheduled in the event Miami and Fullerton don’t play.

The Titans would have to drop a scheduled game to play the Hurricanes because of an NCAA rule that limits teams to playing 60 spring games, including preseason scrimmages. No. 4 Fullerton (39-14) has played 53 regular - season games, and still has a three-game series against the University of the Pacific this weekend. No. 15 Miami is 30-15-1.
