Larry Brown said he intends to remain as basketball coach at Kansas.
Brown’s brief statement in Lawrence, Kan., followed reports during the last few weeks that he would move after completing his four-year contract with the Jayhawks. The most persistent rumor was that he was headed for the New York Knicks.
After it was reported that he had given the Knicks a Friday deadline to make a firm offer, Brown issued a statement, saying that he had been misunderstood.
“I don’t think anyone fully understood my statement,” Brown said. “I don’t want to put a new athletic director in that kind of position. I’m staying at the University of Kansas. It’s final.”
