Boxer Mark Breland and professional basketball players...
Boxer Mark Breland and professional basketball players Walter Berry and Dwayne (Pearl) Washington have been subpoenaed to appear before a federal grand jury investigating an alleged heroin dealer, Newsday reported.
Investigators said the athletes were not targets of the inquiry, and there was no evidence that they have ever been involved with drugs, the Long Island, N.Y., newspaper said.
Law enforcement officials told the newspaper that the athletes will be asked about James Jackson, who was indicted in February on federal charges of conspiring to distribute heroin throughout New York, Boston, Washington and Bridgeport, Conn.
Jackson befriended star athletes at high-priced nightclubs throughout Manhattan, law enforcement officials told the newspaper.
