Reggie Rogers Files Suit Against Two Agents

Football player Reggie Rogers of the University of Washington filed a lawsuit Friday against two agents who, he claims, fraudulently gave him money before his college eligibility ended.

Rogers, a defensive end who was the first-round choice of the Detroit Lions in the recent National Football League draft, filed the suit in Sacramento Superior Court against Norby Walters and G. Patrick Healy. Rogers is seeking $1.4 million in damages from Walters and $1.3 million from Healy.

The suit said both agents gave Rogers money in 1984, before his eligibility was completed, a violation of NCAA rules. The suit said that Walters spread $5,000 in cash on the floor of Rogers’ home in Sacramento in an effort to sign him. According to the suit, Rogers turned down the offer, later accepted the money, then still later, wanted to back out.

Rogers hired Healy, and the suit claims Healy lent him $2,500 and told him the loan was not an NCAA violation.
