San Diego High School Baseball : Pedroza Lifts Chula Vista to 7-6 Victory

Carlos Pedroza singled in Jay Rodriguez with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to lead Chula Vista High School to a 7-6 victory over Hilltop in a Metro Conference game.

With the victory, Chula Vista (7-2, 14-6) moved into first place by a half-game over Hilltop (7-3, 10-8).

Anthony Garcia (9-3) pitched four innings of no-hit relief for the win. Jorge Mora had three hits and Pedroza had two hits and three RBIs to lead Chula Vista.

METRO CONFERENCE

Castle Park 11, Bonita Vista 2--Jose Palos was 4 for 4 with three RBIs and Dominic Quintero was 4 for 4 to lead Castle Park (6-3, 17-6) to its sixth straight win. Sophomore Juan Beltran (5-0) went the distance for the win.

Coronado 6, Mar Vista 4--Bill Pate was 3 for 4, including a two-run single to break a 4-4 tie in the sixth to lead Coronado (7-3, 14-7).

Sweetwater 2, Montgomery 1--Estaban Acosta pitched a four-hitter to lead Sweetwater (3-6, 7-13) at home.

PALOMAR LEAGUE

Orange Glen 6, Vista 2--Ricky Martinez was 2 for 4 including a three-run double in the seventh to lead No. 2 Orange Glen (8-1, 18-5) at Vista. Duffy Daugherty (7-2) allowed one earned run and struck out seven for Orange Glen.

Poway 5, Fallbrook 4--Phil Plantier was 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs, including the game winner on a sacrifice fly in the fifth to lead Poway.

AVOCADO LEAGUE

San Pasqual 9, Ramona 1--Kevin Herde was 1 for 3 with 3 RBIs and Kelly Simpson added a three-run homer to lead San Pasqual (6-4, 13-9) at Ramona. Darren Dunn went the distance striking out 12 and allowing one unearned run.

NON LEAGUE

Mt. Carmel 11, Escondido 5--Steve Rader was 3 for 4 with a single, triple, homer and three RBIs to lead No. 3 Mt. Carmel (18-5). Tommy Cheek added two hits and two RBIs for Mt. Carmel.
