10-Point Plan

Share

I took great interest in the articles on “Prop. U: Debate Goes On” (March 29). I voted against Proposition U and would do so again, since it violates the rights of property owners to develop their land as they see fit.

Proposition U is bad, but Councilman Braude and Yaroslavsky have outdone themselves with their “10-point plan.” I cannot believe that two men who have sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States can seriously propose such drivel.

Under this plan, property owners would be mere tools of the Los Angeles City Council or whatever bureaucracy they put in charge, and private property would no longer be private, especially if it is to be used for job-creating businesses.

Two points are downright crazy. The first is “urban design guidelines.” Since when do politicians have say over the aesthetic nature of buildings?

The second is the mandatory ride-sharing program. This is social engineering if I’ve ever heard it! Why must politicians always try to force people to behave in line with some grandiose “master plan”? People must be allowed to choose for themselves.
