Bill Elliott turned in the fastest qualifying run at Charlotte Motor Speedway, edging Tim Richmond for the pole position in today’s NASCAR’s race of winners at Harrisburg, N.C.
Elliott’s Ford was clocked at 170.827 m.p.h., while Richmond, racing for the first time this season after suffering a near fatal bout with pneumonia, turned in a time of 170.234 on the 1.5-mile oval.
