Milwaukee Buck Coach Don Nelson talked with officials of the New York Knicks and the Clippers Wednesday, but said there is virtually no chance of him becoming coach of either NBA team.

Nelson said Knick President Richard Evans called him and asked that he evaluate several candidates for the vacant coaching position in New York.

“He wanted my opinion about some other guys,” Nelson said. “I responded to the names of people he gave me,” he said, declining to identify any of those mentioned.

Nelson said he telephoned Clipper President Alan Rothenberg after Rothenberg had received permission from Buck owner Herb Kohl to talk with Nelson.

Nelson said he spoke with Rothenberg about the coaching vacancy on the Clippers.

“It was just about coaching, and I told him at this point I think if I coach at all next year it would be with the Bucks,” Nelson said.
