CSUN Moves Into First Place at NCAA Golf Finals

Wayne Tyni shot a 2-under-par 70 to lead Cal State Northridge to a five-stroke lead after the second round of the NCAA Division II men’s golf championships Wednesday at the Bull Creek Golf Course.

CSUN, which trailed by four strokes after the first round, shot 289 Tuesday and has a three-over-par total of 579. Cal State Sacramento shot 293 and is in second with 584. Troy State is third with 586 after shooting 295. The University of Tampa, which led after the first round, is eight strokes back and in fourth place.

Tyni is in third place in the individual competition, five strokes behind leader Jeff Leonard of Tampa. Tim Hogarth of CSUN shot 71 and is tied for the seventh.
