Pincay Guides Something Lucky to Victory in Hollywood Park’s Will Rogers Handicap

Something Lucky scored his second stakes victory with a one-length win Saturday in the 47th running of the $83,350 Will Rogers Handicap for three-year-olds at Hollywood Park.

Jockey Laffit Pincay kept the winner in third position and clear of trouble early on, then urged him to the lead and, in a strong drive, held off the closing challenges of The Medic and Persevered.

Making only his second start on grass, Something Lucky raced the 1 1/16 miles in 1:43. Sent off at odds of 8-1 by the crowd of 26,000, Something Lucky paid $18.80, $6.60 and $3.80. The Medic, ridden by Fernando Toro, paid $3.40 and $2.80, while Persevered, with Gary Stevens aboard, returned $2.60.

Two of the the nation’s top turf fillies, Reloy and Galunpe, head a field of seven entered in today’s $108,800 Grade I Gamely Handicap at Hollywood Park. Reloy, to be ridden by Bill Shoemaker, will carry high weight of 121 pounds. Fernando Toro will be aboard Galunpe, who will carry 120 pounds in the 1 1/8-mile race for fillies and mares 3 years old and up.
