An 11-year-old San Diego girl was killed when she roller-skated into the street and was struck by a passing motorist, San Diego police reported.
Wendy Michelle Cravens, daughter of Joan Church, was skating south on the sidewalk along Afton Road near Larkdale Avenue in Serra Mesa about 5 p.m. when she darted into the street, Deputy Coroner Chuck Bolton said.
She was pronounced dead at Sharp Memorial Hospital.
The driver who struck the girl fled the scene, but a woman called police an hour later from her parents’ home to report the incident, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Police were questioning the unidentified 21-year-old Chula Vista woman Wednesday night.
