England’s Nigel Mansell set the fastest time in the first qualifying session for Sunday’s Formula One Grand Prix of Monaco.
Mansell’s time in his Williams-Honda was 1 minute 24.514 seconds around the 2.068-mile course. Alain Prost of France, last year’s Formula One champion, qualified third behind Mansell and Brazil’s Ayrton Senna.
West Germany’s Christian Danner was disqualified after being involved in a crash with Italy’s Michele Alboreto.
