Twenty-six employees were taken to hospitals for examination after carbon monoxide gas leaked at a vegetable processing plant just outside the community of Marina. A North Monterey County Fire Department captain said a mechanic left a hose disconnected on a 700-cubic-foot tank of compressed carbon monoxide at the Bud of California plant. Three workers reported to have the gas in their blood were placed in a decompression chamber at the Pacific Grove Fire Department. A similar accident led to the hospitalization of 14 people seven months ago.
