Local News in Brief : Truck’s Brakes Ignite 175-Acre Brush Fire
Sparks from the brakes of a semi-trailer truck traveling down a steep stretch of the Golden State Freeway ignited a brush fire Sunday that burned 175 acres in Castaic, fire officials said.
About 250 firefighters battled for an hour to contain the blaze, which was reported shortly before 3 p.m., Los Angeles County fire Capt. Terry Hart said. One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation at a local hospital, he said.
The fire burned grass along a quarter-mile stretch of the freeway near Lake Hughes Road, Hart said.
