Candles Snuffed Out at the Pass

A ban on exposed, burning candles favored by many Hollywood Bowl picnickers has been issued by Bowl management on orders from the fire marshal and the State of California.
“I know a lot of people love to light them, even before it gets dark,” chief of operations Pat Moore noted. “But officials are worried that someone might walk by, knock one over and set somebody on fire.”
Leaflets will be distributed explaining the new rules, Moore said. “People can bring candles--they just can’t light them. Or they can use those candles in a cup that won’t start a fire if they’re tipped over.”
So much for romance in Cahuenga Pass.
