Schermerhorn to Coach at Arizona State
Bob Schermerhorn, the head coach at Southern Utah State University the past four seasons, has been hired as an assistant basketball coach at Arizona State, school officials announced Tuesday.
He previously coached at UC Irvine, Chaffey College and Canyon High School in Anaheim.
The addition of Schermerhorn, 44, completes the Sun Devils’ staff under Coach Steve Patterson.
Former Hawaii Coach Frank Arnold was hired as an assistant coach last month and ex-Arizona State All-American and NBA guard Lionel Hollins was named a volunteer assistant.
Patterson dismissed assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Rob Chavez in May and another assistant, Keith Hughes, resigned in April.
Hughes has since become the head basketball coach at Kings River Community College and Chavez is scheduled to become coach and athletic director at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Ore.
Schermerhorn compiled a 68-42 record at Southern Utah State, including a 22-5 mark last season.
