An off-duty Los Angeles County deputy sheriff was killed Thursday when the car he was driving went out of control on the Antelope Valley Freeway outside Acton, the California Highway Patrol said.

The man, Kenneth Salazar, 31, of Sylmar was heading north on the Antelope Valley freeway about 2 p.m. when his Jeep drifted into the center divider near Ward Road, CHP Officer Bruce Turner said.

When it hit the divider, the vehicle swerved and rolled several times, Turner said. Salazar, who was not wearing his seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle, Turner said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
