Kelvin Seabrooks fought to a draw with Frenchman Thierry Jacob at Calais, France, and retained his International Boxing Federation bantamweight title.
The three judges and referee Paul Venti announced the decision after meeting for more than an hour. Jacob (13-0-1), bleeding over both eyes, failed to answer the bell for the 10th round of the scheduled 15-round bout.
Under IBF rules, the points leader is declared the winner if the fight is stopped because of an injury to either fighter after the sixth round. Jacob was ahead, but officials declared a draw because he was not a certain winner after being battered by Seabrooks (19-12) in the eighth and ninth rounds.
