The Nation : GM Odometer Fraud Cited

Share

As many as 2,000 General Motors Corp. trucks and utility vehicles had their odometers replaced or turned back during the last four years to conceal mileage run up by managers, it was reported. Workers at a Pontiac, Mich., truck plant said they were asked by supervisors to replace, disconnect or turn back odometers because the trucks, mainly Chevrolet Blazers or GMC Jimmys, were returned after overnight test drives had put on as many as 170 miles, the Oakland Press in Michigan said. “These are serious allegations,” said Jim Crellin, a GM spokesman. “General Motors has a longstanding written policy that prohibits disconnecting odometers after vehicles leave the assembly line.”
