At least 10 children were injured when a recreation center miniature train toppled in a Mission Gorge park, San Diego Fire Department officials reported.

About 20 children and adults were riding in a small gasoline-powered train at Admiral Baker Field about 2:45 p.m. when it picked up speed on a slope and the driver missed a turn, fire department spokesman Larry Stewart said.

The train was used to transport visitors throughout the recreation center, which is on U.S. Navy property.

Stewart said 12 children complained of injuries. One 3-year-old girl was admitted to Children’s Hospital for overnight observation, and at least nine children were treated for minor injuries and released at area hospitals, hospital officials said.
