A Southern California youth was killed and four of his Cerritos High School classmates suffered minor injuries when their van rolled over on a return trip from a football camp in Utah, officials said. Eric John Stranz, 17, died in the accident on Interstate 15, about 20 miles south of the town of Nephi, a Utah Highway Patrol officer said. All four of the other teen-agers were treated for severe cuts, and three were released from Utah Valley Medical Center, dispatchers said. The driver, Scott Kahaley, 17, was in stable condition after minor surgery on his thumb, officials said. The five youths were returning home from a football camp at Brigham Young University in Provo when “the driver fell asleep and the vehicle went off the road and struck a sign post and rolled,” the dispatcher said. The other passengers were identified as Michael C. Warren, 17; Brian LeBaron, 17; Douglas C. Nelson, 16, and Jeffery J. Duke, 17, all of Cerritos.
