A man suspected of shoplifting lost his left eye when a market security guard struck him with a baton, Los Angeles police said. Willie Polk, 46, of Los Angeles was in stable condition at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital, Sgt. Steve LaRoche said. Police did not find any of the store’s property on Polk, LaRoche said. The unemployed man was shopping in the ABC Market at 4030 S. Western Ave. when a security guard accused him of shoplifting, LaRoche said. An altercation ensued and the guard struck Polk with a baton, destroying the orbit around the eye, LaRoche said. The 24-year-old guard, whose name was withheld by police, was not arrested.
