Bob Gaviglio has resigned from the swimming and water polo coaching position at Esperanza High School and has accepted a coaching position in Bend, Ore. . . . Mark Lofink of Orange and Dan Klatt of Yorba Linda won last weekend’s 2-on-2 competition held at Cypress College. They scored 145 points in the two-day competition that has nine events--volleyball, over-the-line softball, basketball, swimming, a mile run, a 100-yard sprint, football, weight-lifting and doubles tennis. A new competition is held every weekend through the championship in September . . . Dave Staton of Orange Coast College, a two-time all-state designated hitter, signed a national letter of intent to attend Northwestern University next fall. He hit .343 with 11 home runs 50 RBIs last spring for OCC. He set a school career record for doubles with 30.
