AMERICAN LEGION HIGHLIGHTS : 9-Run Surge in 12th Lifts Studio City

Olonzo Woodfin hit a grand slam to highlight a nine-run 12th inning Saturday as Studio City defeated Canoga Park, 19-10, at Chaminade to end a 15-game losing streak.

Shawn Aleshire hit a solo home run to spark a five-run third inning, then hit a two-run shot in the 11th to give Studio City a 10-8 lead.

Canoga Park scored twice in the bottom of the 11th before Studio City (2-16) put the game out of reach in the 12th inning. Martin Valencia led off the inning with a solo home run.

Ken Meyer had two home runs for Canoga Park (4-15).

Burbank-Burroughs 3, Van Nuys-Notre Dame 0--Wayne Schull pitched a three-hitter and struck out nine for Burbank-Burroughs (12-7). Losing pitcher Joe Kane (4-2) struck out 13 for Van-Nuys-Notre Dame (13-5).

Encino-Tarzana 4, Burbank-Providence 3--Dean Kline had a pinch-hit run-scoring single and Damon Buford drove in the winning run as Encino-Tarzana (15-4) took advantage of two errors in the ninth to record the win.

Granada Hills 7-5, San Fernando 0-3--Colin Hines threw a five-hit shutout in the first game, and Jason Farrell had 14 strikeouts in the second for Granada Hills (13-6). V.P. Pacjin and Gino Pagliaferri each hit home runs in the first game.

Westlake 11, Camarillo 4--Greg Struhl and Mike Maggiora each hit home runs and Bobby Weer and Ed Aguilar contributed three hits each as Westlake (8-3) beat Camarillo (9-3).

Chatsworth 5-3, Reseda 4-4--Pitcher Mike Schwartzer and Andy Langel combined for a three-hitter in the second game as Reseda (11-7) split a doubleheader with Chatsworth (14-3). In the first game Brent Ruedy singled in David Waco for the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

Sun Valley 3-18, Van Nuys-Grant 1-5--Harold Whiteside’s two-run double scored the winning run in the first game, and Bobby Flores hit a three-run home run and collected six RBIs in the second for Sun Valley (10-7).

Reseda-Cleveland 7-9, Woodland Hills 5-0--Lance Mandel hit a two-run single to spark a four-run ninth inning as Reseda-Cleveland (13-5) came from behind to win the first The second was won by forfeit.

Woodland Hills (14-4) led, 10-4, in the fourth inning when first base coach Lee Hersch and his son Mark, the third base coach, disputed a call by the base umpire that resulted in a double play. The umpire ejected both coaches for verbal abuse, then declared the game a forfeit after Mark Hersch continued to argue.
