Santa Ana : Santiago Students Win Broadcasting Awards
For the second consecutive year, a newscast produced by broadcast students at Rancho Santiago College has been named “best cable-access news series in the United States.”
The newscast “Around and About Orange County” won the top award from the National Federation of Local Cable Programmers. Terry Bales, chairman of Rancho Santiago’s telecommunications and journalism department, accepted the award at the national federation’s convention in Chicago earlier this month, college officials said.
Another award from the federation went to Rancho Santiago student Heidi Stone. She won an award for “best informational single program” for a work she produced for the La Palma community access station.
“We are extremely proud of the continued excellent work of our students,” Bales said. “To capture a national honor is very gratifying, and to win it twice in succession is a real mark of distinction.”
