The State Water Project announced it will buy 83,000 acre-feet of water from the Yuba County Water Agency and store an equal amount of its own water for use in case of a drought next winter. The 83,000 acre-feet, roughly equal to the amount used yearly by a city of 325,000 population, is stored in New Bullard’s Bar Reservoir on the North Fork of the Yuba River about 40 miles northeast of Marysville. The water project will pay the Yuba agency $5 an acre-foot for the water, or $415,000. If next winter is dry and the water saved by the state does not overflow from Oroville Dam, the Yuba agency will receive an additional $10 per acre foot.
