Lottery Mother Lode in Gold Country
Someone struck a different kind of gold in El Dorado County, picking the six winning numbers in the weekend Lotto 6/49 game to claim the $9.3-million jackpot, a California Lottery spokesman said Sunday.
The ticket was purchased at a country store called Rescue Junction in the community of Rescue, not far from Coloma and the site where the California Gold Rush began with John Marshall’s discovery in 1848, spokesman John Schade said.
The winning numbers picked Saturday night were 19, 6, 45, 11, 3, 20 and the bonus number, 23.
The winner of the jackpot, which totaled $9,326,524, will not be known until the ticket is brought to a lottery office.
There were seven second-place tickets with five numbers and the bonus number. Each ticket is worth $195,768. There were 261 tickets with five numbers, each paying $2,705.
Sales for the week totaled $12,837,257. Next week’s jackpot was expected to be about $4 million.
The largest Lotto jackpot so far is $17.9 million.
The owner of Rescue Junction will receive an incentive bonus of $46,632, equal to one half of 1% of this week’s prize, Schade said.
