A Navy F-14 Tomcat on a training mission crashed into the Pacific Ocean about 15 miles south of San Clemente Island, but both crewmen ejected and were rescued, a Navy spokesman said. Lt. Michael Manazir was piloting the Miramar Naval Air Station-based jet, when for unknown reasons the plane started going down just before noon. Manazir and his co-pilot, Lt. Samuel Richardson, “both ejected safely and (were) unharmed,” said Lt. Cmdr. Willis Woumnm. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
