Four people were killed and three others, including two children, were critically injured Sunday in Sylmar after a suspected drunk driver crashed into an oncoming vehicle, Los Angeles police said.

The accident occurred about 5 p.m. on a desolate stretch of San Fernando Road. A westbound Chevrolet sedan carrying three men collided head on with a Ford Falcon station wagon carrying a man, a woman and two boys, said Sgt. Bob Farkas of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley traffic division.

The identities and ages of the victims were not immediately available, but police speculated that the people in the station wagon were all members of one family.
