Fiat Offers TV Lure to Astronaut
Former astronaut Buzz Aldrin, who regularly appears gratis at local society and political gatherings, is being lured to appear on Italian television at the end of the month for a fee of $25,000.
It seems that executives of the giant Fiat auto manufacturing company offered the Laguna Beach resident the megabucks to lure him to Milan, where he will talk about space flight on a television show.
Accompanying Aldrin will be his fiancee, Lois Driggs Cannon, also of Laguna Beach. “He’s a very dedicated man,” Cannon whispered at a recent benefit. “He feels he has a responsibility to help, to inspire.”
But Cannon is tickled that the second man on the moon will be paid for this appearance. “It’s nice that they recognize his value. People expect a hero to give of his time, but a hero has to make a living.”
