San Diego State Basketball Team to Open Nov. 27 in Sun-Met Classic

San Diego State and its new coach, Jim Brandenburg, will open their 28-game 1987-88 basketball schedule against Kansas State in the first round of the Sun-Met Classic Nov. 27 in Fresno.

The Aztecs will play Kansas State in the first game of the four-team tournament at Selland Arena in the Fresno Convention Center at 6 p.m. Fresno State, the host team, will play Northern Arizona in the second game at 8 p.m. The consolation and championship games will be held Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Kansas State (20-11 last season) advanced to the second round of the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. tournament. The Wildcats defeated Georgia in overtime before losing to Nevada Las Vegas.

SDSU and Kansas State have met twice with each team winning once, the last time was in the 1973-74 season with the Aztecs winning, 88-75.
