Share

A project to expand the El Segundo Library has received $158,727 in federal money to make the facilities more accessible to the handicapped, library Director Barbara Kirby said.

The grant is distributed by the California State Library under the federal Library Services and Construction Act and will be used for modifications including ramps and bathroom facilities for the handicapped in existing and new library buildings, Kirby said. The El Segundo expansion is being planned in stages and is scheduled for completion in 1989.

The library has also received $6,000 in state money to add materials about minority and ethnic cultures to its children’s book collection. Another $6,000 grant under the California Library Services act will help improve the library’s computer system and connect it to a national computer reference network, Kirby said.
